We continued our drive down the coast and while the ocean was beautiful, it was still very foggy and cold.

This was the view as we pulled into Mendocino.

We stayed at the MacCallum House Inn. We booked a room in one of their converted water towers. Our room was behind the house in the picture below. It was small and cozy. Plus it was set back from any other rooms so we felt like we had a lot of privacy. The price of the room includes a full on gourmet breakfast at their restaurant the next morning. Apart from a couple of issues (I'll mention those later) I would highly recommend staying here.

There was a gorgeous garden. I couldn't stop taking pictures of the flowers...so bear with me.

These are some geese who lived in a fenced in yard down the street from our room. I thought it was funny that as cute as they look in this picture, they were loud and MEAN!

More flowers from our garden...

Here are the stairs up to our tower and more pictures of flowers...just kidding. This is where we stayed. There was a spiral staircase up to the master bedroom, a day bed downstairs and a woodstove. Like I said...it was cozy.

So in this picture is one of the reasons we were a little unhappy with this room. The woodstove. Or as Isaac calls it...the worthless piece of sh*t! It was really cold when we woke up in the morning and Isaac thought it would be nice to build a little fire to warm us up. What we failed to notice before putting a match to the wood was that this cute little stove DIDN'T HAVE A FLUE!!! Within seconds, there was smoke literally pouring into our cozy room. We freaked out and frantically tried to find the flue which didn't exist. So, we opened up all the windows and doors and poured water on the fire to stop the smoke and ended up colder than ever. Looking back, it's one of those funny stories you tell for years, but in the moment we were pretty pissed. We got home and all of our clothes smelled like we'd had a BBQ in the room. If you ever stay here....consider yourself warned!

We had our anniversary dinner at Cafe Beaujolais in Mendocino. It was really nice and the restaurant wasn't full, so we felt catered to. Isaac and I brought a 2001 bottle of Peter Michael with us and it was an amazing bottle of wine. Our only complaint, which seemed to be a trend in Mendocino, was that a lot of the people we dealt with were less than friendly. We attributed it to the whole "we hate tourists" thing. But it almost went beyond that...kind of like they were all just a**holes. We couldn't put our finger on it, but coming from a tourist town ourselves we couldn't believe the attitude. Overall, the dinner was delicious and we had a nice anniversary gift that came with the bill when my parents surprised us by paying for it. Love it!!

After dinner, we went to a local watering hole called Dick's Place. Apropos, I felt, considering this was what we thought of the locals.

All in all, it was an amazing anniversary. I'm still reeling over the fact that it's already been one year. So...cheers to us!
